A History Of Firsts

The Bahamas First General Insurance Company (Bahamas First) was formed by a group of enterprising Bahamians who understood that providing insurance was more than just a business transaction. It’s about caring for your community, knowing their needs and building trust.

1983

They founded Bahamas First in 1983, creating the first locally-established general insurance company in The Bahamas. The company was the first to provide innovative and customized insurance solutions through a strong network of authorized agents, revolutionizing the Bahamian insurance market and becoming industry leaders.

1999

As a result of stable leadership and careful planning, we have grown the business throughout The Bahamas and expanded into the Cayman Islands. In 1999, Bahamas First became the first Bahamian property and casualty company to have its financial strength and ability to pay claims assigned a rating by A.M. Best. The company has maintained its initial A- (Excellent) rating for the past three decades.

We pride ourselves in continuing to be the first to deliver products and services. Through our extensive network of agents throughout The Bahamas, we provide innovative insurance solutions that clients need for themselves, their families and their businesses.

2007

In 2007, we launched our First Response Unit, the Bahamas’ first accident response service, which improved our client experience and sped up our claim process. When The Bahamas experienced devastating natural disasters, like Hurricanes Frances and Jeane in 2004 and Hurricane Matthew in 2016, the customer-centric Bahamas First team responded with expert advice, filling claims as quickly as possible and helping our clients to restore their storm-damaged homes and businesses so they could get back to life as usual.

2008

In 2008, the Future Leaders Development Program was established to train and develop of the next generation of leaders while our Bahamas First Innovation Center started as an internal training program in 2015. These programs ensure that Bahamas First is able to leverage strong leadership, technology, and innovation to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry and our clients.

At Bahamas First, we believe that a strong community makes us a better country. Our partnership with local civic and cultural organizations such as The Cancer Society, Junior Achievement and the Saxon Superstars Junkanoo Group helps those in need and supports youth development.
